Richard Lankshear MIStructE discusses the Stirling Prize winning Goldsmith Street and how evolving home design will require the specialist skills of the structural engineer.

UK housing

Engineering innovation in house building

Primary energy and embodied carbon

While the operational performance of homes is important, engineers should not lose sight of the value of the assessment of embodied carbon.
