PROJECT DESCRIPTION
An addition of a retractable roof to an iconic stadium. The roof is supported on a flexible long span structure and posed a unique set of challenges for the design team. Creative engineering and a collaborative approach were used to meet these challenges. The construction sequence allowed the tournament to continue uninterrupted through the three-year build process.

Supporting a retractable roof on a long span flexible structure was challenging, and there was also the added complexity of supporting the new roof on an existing structure. However, the team here have admirably delivered a first class and dramatic roof structure through creative engineering and a collaborative approach.
The requirement to allow the tournament to continue each year through the three-year build process added complexity to the interplay of tolerances and deflections between the various components, necessitating a carefully considered design that allowed for the swift and accurate construction at each of the build stages. The final solution saw the successful completion of the structure three times; for each of the yearly tournaments, safely allowing the public and players into the partially completed stadium.
An elegant sustainable solution with complex construction phasing.
