How to effectively model complex structures.

The rapid development of construction technology has enabled the building of increasingly complex structures in recent years. Most of these structures could not have been designed without advanced modelling techniques. It is essential that structural engineers can use the relevant software packages and understand the analysis theories that underpin them.

In this lecture, Feng Fu will introduce:
  • Modelling techniques for different types of structures
  • The software most frequently used in current design practice: ANSYS, ABAQUS, SAP2000 and ETABS
  • How to set up complex models
  • Modelling examples: tall buildings, long span structures, blast analysis, buckling analysis and earthquake analysis
Reasons to view:
  • Understand the techniques for modelling complex structures
  • Gain a better understanding of the behaviour of structures under various loads
  • Understand how to effectively design a structure with the help of advanced software
